Module 1 covered HTML and CSS, the tools to format and design any website online. During the module, Dr.Crowley led in-class, hands-on lectures about the basics of HTML and CSS to help students grasp the material in order to start developing their portfolios. Out of class assignemnts consisted of extra tutorials from W3Schools, an interactive guide on Codecademy, and a bit of content about the origin of the internet and security. There was a lot of hands on work out of class that really helped improve my use of HTML and CSS.
The most effective part of this module was the Codecademy walkthrough for HTML and CSS. It was thorough and covered the essentials everyone can start with to create their own website. HTML and CSS usually act as building blocks that do not have the complexities as something as SQL or PHP, thus the repetition of typing out a sites framework and styling helps the user get used to the syntax and be familiar with property attributes.
The segment that I did not particularly enjoy was the Vint Cerf video assignment. Although it was interesting to watch, it did feel slow at times. It was troublesome to try to actively place timestamps whenever there seemed to be an answer to one of the assignements questions. It may have been me, but some of the questions were not answered in the Vint Cerf video. Thus, I had to look around in more places online to find an answer.
Click here to see my webpage for w3schools. This is my best page from module 1. I decided to showcase this because it demonstrates basic elements from HTML, CSS, and bootstrap. Bootstrap takes HTML and CSS and makes everything much more contemporary to todays standards. It also shows my excellence in the w3schools quizzes.
